Feast of our Venerable Mother Werburgh of Mercia

Thursday 3 February

9.00am Divine Liturgy at the Church of Barbara the Great Martyr, Chester CH4 7HW

Followed by Pilgrimage to Saint Werburgh’s shrine in Chester Catehdral

Our Venerable Mother Werbugh of Mercia is an important saint for Shrewsbury as her veneration in the town was established in the early 10th Century.  A chapel dedicated to Saint Werburgh was located near Old Saint Chad’s.  An excellent history has recently been written by our dear friend, beloved member of our church and local historian Christopher Jobson.  I urge you to read the history so that we can give fitting honour to the saint who now adorns the north wall of our church.  A link to the history can be found in the Latest Posts section further down on this page.  Reading it, you will be moved to join us in honouring her memory on 3 February with us in Chester.
