On Sunday, July 9, 2023, His Grace Bishop Maximos of Melitene presided at Matins and celebrated the Divine Liturgy. The Very Reverend Protopresbyter Stephen Maxfield and Presbyter Panteleimon Maxfield, and Presbyter David Walker served with His Grace.
To mark His Grace’s visit, The Church of the 318 Holy Fathers chose to celebrate by holding their annual fundraising Greek BBQ and fete after the Divine Liturgy.
Church members, family, friends and guests from the local community relaxed together, enjoying a fantastic Greek BBQ, cakes, a bar and live music. Though the bouncy castle had been ‘rained off’ the previous day, it wasn’t missed, however, with games ranging from hoopla and the coconut shy to tug-of-war and the parachute game ably run by Sam and Nick, giving parents a few moments here and there to chat and relax.
There was an extensive books and gifts stall and second-hand clothes to purchase. And the event concluded with a raffle.
Having braved heavy rain the evening before to prepare the marquee and stalls, the community’s efforts were blessed on the Sunday with sunshine right up until the fete was already drawing to a happy end.
The day was a great success, with many guests forwarding their congratulations to all for such an enjoyable and welcoming event. It was a great chance to spend time together as a church family and to welcome the local neighbourhood and beyond.
