On 16 June, the Sunday of the 318 Godbearing Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea, His Grace Bishop Maximos of Melitene presided at Orthros and celebrated the Divine Liturgy for the feast day of the church. Also serving were the Reverend Protopresbyter Stephen Maxfield, the priest in charge of the church, and the Reverend Presbyter Panteleimon Maxfield.
In his homily, His Grace reminded the gathered faithful of the council’s importance in the history of the Church when the synod of Holy Fathers proclaimed and confessed Jesus Christ to be one in essence and honour with the Father, thereby overthrowing the heresy of Arius.
At the end of the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, His Grace honoured Reader Christopher Lewis, the choirmaster emeritus, for his dedicated service to the church and its choir by awarding him the Cross Medal of the Archdiocese.
Following the Divine Liturgy, the festival continued with a traditional Cypriot barbecue and activities for the children.
