Marcin Abijski
Dr. Marcin Abijski is a theologian, musicologist, and cantor specialising in the relationships between Byzantine music and Old Russian monody, particularly in liturgical contexts. Founder of the Bogdan Onisimowicz Male Chamber Choir, he instructs Athonite monks in Byzantine chant at Mount Athos. As cantor at the Skete of St. Anthony and St. Theodosios of Kiev-Pechersk in Odrynki—Poland’s only Orthodox hermitage—Marcin has composed Greek-Byzantine music for Polish liturgical texts including the “Akathist to the Most Holy Theotokos” and Romanos the Melodist’s kontakion “On the Converted.” His scholarship bridges theological understanding with authentic musical practice of Eastern Christian traditions.
