Alison Wootten
I am an Orthodox iconographer living in West Wales. I paint icons in the Byzantine tradition, predominantly in egg tempera on traditionally gessoed wooden panels. I have been an artist for over 25 years and have a background as an abstract painter, weaver, and hand-spinner. These disciplines have fuelled my ongoing interest in process and how it is driven by a complex balance between materials and meaning. I studied icon painting The Prince’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts, completed 2023, and fine art at Wimbledon College of Art. I am currently working on a doctoral thesis on iconography.
